Key Month-on-Month Metrics
December was a weak month for crypto fundraising. Total funding fell to $1.18B, down 56.82% from $2.74B in November and 52.57% from $2.50B in December 2024. The sharpest reset was in median valuation, which dropped 60.00% to $200M from $500M. Median round size also declined 21.92% to $5.70M from $7.30M, while the number of rounds edged up to 62 from 59, indicating the slowdown came from smaller checks rather than fewer deals.
DeFi was the most active sector with 23 projects, 3 above its trailing 12-month average. Infrastructure was part of the second-place cluster at 13 projects, but that was 16 below its trailing average, the largest shift in either direction among the leading sectors. The distribution suggests activity stayed anchored in DeFi even as infrastructure fundraising cooled materially.
